How To Control Hair Fall - Tips And Homemade Remedies

Hair fall is one of those things that you don’t pay attention to unless it’s happening to you. Losing your hair certainly feels awful. Due to the modern sedentary lifestyle, a lot of men and women now suffer from hair loss.

There are a number of reasons that lead to hair loss, such as age, environmental pollution, poor diet, stress or hormonal imbalance. You need to know that conditions which affect the body can also affect hair growth, since your hair health is a reflection of your overall health. Due to the lockdown, our average daily activity has reduced quite a bit which has lead to slow depletion of body immunity. One of the signs of immunity levels going down, is hair fall.

Exercise boosts body health and promotes a strong hair growth cycle. It also increases the blood flow to scalp and promote circulation around the scalp, resulting in better hair growth. So make sure you put in atleast 45 mins of simple workout such as walking around your apartment/street, light jogging, climbing the stairs of your apartment, yoga, etc. Simple things that you can do to incorporate this is to stop taking the lift and use the stairs instead. Instead of taking a two or four wheeler walk to your grocery store, etc.

Apart from this, its also important to take care of internal health. As women, we go through a lot of hormonal changes regularly and we are prone to vitamin deficiencies. The food we eat sometimes doesn't compensate for the deficiencies. Hence its important to supplement them externally.

Multivitamins For Women:

Every day, we all strive for balance. We try to eat right, exercise more, and sleep better.  We try to navigate through our days and weeks with as little stress as possible, taking everything in stride. But sometimes, even when we are doing our best, we need a boost; we need to increase our body’s wellness to deal with the stress, poor sleep and dietary deficiencies that come from a busy life. That’s where supplements come in. I highly recommend Carbamide Forte Biotin 10,000mcg because not only does it contain 43 essential ingredients, it also is specifically designed for hair care. I switched to Biotin just recently. Over the past one year, I was using the same brand, but sans the Biotin.

Omega 3, 6 & 9:

The strongest health benefit of omega-3 is related to heart health. This includes helping to maintain a regular heart rhythm, reducing blood pressure, lowering blood fat levels and slowing down the rate at which our arteries get clogged up. Omega 3 also helps in easing menstrual pain. You can also take fish oil capsules instead of flaxseed oil.

Spirulina Tablets:

Spirulina is known as a nutrient-dense food as it is packed full of vitamins, including vitamins A, C, E and B vitamins, as well as a whole host of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and selenium. In particular, vitamin C and selenium are both antioxidants and help protect our cells and tissues from damage.

Regular Maintenance:

In addition to the above supplements, its also important to take care of the hair externally.

Trimming The Hair:

Trimming the ends of the hair once in 60 to 90 days helps release the tension on the roots. The tips of the hair usually become dry and brittle due to constant friction, leading to breakages and split ends.

Avoid Heat On The Hair:

Avoid heat on the hair like hair dryer, straightener, curler, crimper. Avoid using hair setting or smoothening sprays/gels on a daily basis. This will keep damaging the hair further weakening the roots. Use them sparingly only on special occasions.

Oiling The Hair:

Oiling the hair is a natural way of nourishing the hair roots and tips. Even though I find this very time consuming, I have learnt it the hard way. I usually oil my hair on Saturday evening or night and wash it off the next day morning. I really like the Bio Bhringraj hair oil. Its light and non sticky. I love Biotique products and have been using many of their skin care products for many years now. They are very affordable and 100% Ayurvedic.

Nourishing The Hair:

Apart from oiling the hair, I have also started using a homemade pack with fenugreek.

1. The Methi Yogurt Pack

Soak 3-4 tablespoons of methi seeds in water overnight. The next morning, grind them to form a paste and combine this with 4 tablespoons of curd. Apply this mixture over your scalp, leave it for 45 minutes, then wash off with cold water. While the good bacteria in curd reduces scalp infection, methi increases hair growth from the follicle.

2. The Methi Oil Mask

Grind 3 - 4 tablespoons of dry methi seeds in a blender into a powder. Mix this with 5 tablespoons of warm coconut or sesame oil. I mix this directly with Bio Bhringraj Oil. Massage this mixture over the scalp and apply the remaining to the lengths of your hair. Leave it for 2 hours then wash away with warm water. This hair pack will curb hair fall and breakage so that the strands grow to be healthy and long.

Another important aspect which I have realised is, consistency is the key to good hair fall. Having a fixed hair care routine is so important. I fail in this many times, but, I try to stick to a schedule as much as possible. Patience is the key. These things take time. But when done consistently will show great results.
