Mutton Kheema Recipe

Kheema is a delicious meat delicacy prepared using mutton mince, onions, tomatoes, cloves and cinnamon. This simple minced mutton preparation is cooked with a variety of whole and dried spices. It tastes delicious with all Indian breads like naan, roti and in some parts of the country it is served with pav. The succulent mutton tastes great when paired with pav. Garlic adds a unique aroma and taste to this mutton recipe.

Variations To Make Kheema


  • Add 1/2 cup green peas to the kheema. Add it towards the end once the meat is cooked. Green peas adds on to the taste and makes this dish eye-grabbing!
  • 1 large potato cubed, can also be added in the recipe. Just take off the gravy from the flame a bit early when there is still some moisture left. The potato will soak up a lot of moisture as the gravy cools down.
  • Garnish mutton kheema with 2 sliced boiled and roasted eggs.
  • You can also use this Keema recipe as a filling for wraps and rolls. 


Serves - 4

Ingredients:

½ kg minced mutton,
3 medium to large sized onions, coarsely ground,
2 large tomatoes, coarsely ground,
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste,
3 tsp red chilli powder,
1 tsp turmeric powder,
2 tsp coriander powder,
2 tsp garam masala powder,
1 tsp pepper powder,
1 tsp cumin seeds,
2-3 cloves,
2 cinnamon sticks, 1 inch sized,
2-3 bay leaves,
Salt as per taste
1/4th cup oil,
Fresh coriander for garnish, chopped


Method:

  1. Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Add the cumin seeds, and whole spices (cloves, cinnamon, & bay leaves) and stir for a minute.
  2. Add the onion paste and fry until it turns golden brown. Add ginger garlic paste and tomato paste. Stir and fry until golden brown.
  3. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and stir for some more time.
  4. Add the minced meat and fry for about 5-7 mins.
  5. Adjust the salt and spice. Cover with a lid and allow to cook for 10-15 mins.
  6. Keep stirring in once in a while. 
  7. Add garam masala powder and pepper powder.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with rice, rotis, naan, or pav.
